Mount Laurel Girl Scouts Ella Hashimoto and Sabrina Parikh unveiled their pizza box collection bin at the Mount Laurel Community Gardens on Saturday, April 24.
Taking inspiration from Bordentown’s pizza box initiative, the Girl Scouts established a pizza box collection bin that would eliminate waste and help local farmers promote plant growth. Farmers can take the boxes, flatten them, and cover them with leaf waste and seeds. The initiative also helps prevent the pizza boxes from sitting in a landfill.
The Girl Scout Silver Award is the second-highest award that a Girl Scout can earn nationally.
Mayor Steglik, Deputy Mayor Pritchett, Councilwoman Cohen, and Burlington County Commissioner Linda Hynes presented proclamations to Ella and Sabrina for their pizza box collection project. Members of the Mount Laurel Township Green Team were also present.
“Ella and Sabrina have shown what true leadership looks like and how one project can make a big impact in our Mount Laurel community” Mayor Steglik stated.
Members of the community can drop off empty pizza boxes at the Mount Laurel Community Gardens at 1256 Hainesport Mt Laurel Rd, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054.
