Obituary: Jackie Steven Durham

Jackie Steven Durham is remembered for his unapologetic nature.

Jackie Steven Durham (Special to The Sun).

Jackie Steven Durham, born January 12, 1939 went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2021. Jack loved his family dearly including his wife Joan, their son Jack and daughter-in-law Melissa and their children Jacob, Grant, and Hope and daughter Patty and son-in-law Matthew and their children Sarah, Nicholas, and Dominic. Jack loved the Lord and his church family. He was a deacon and a member at Lighthouse Church for many years. He is celebrating in Glory now. Jack was born in Merchantville and lived in South Jersey his whole life.

He was a truck driver and knew how to get to almost anywhere without a map or GPS. Jack had a life-long love of fishing and his favorite place was in a boat on the water with a fishing rod in his hand. When he wasn’t fishing, he loved to tend his garden. He was out in the garden with a hat in 90-degree weather and was loving life. His family remembers his love of growing tomatoes and the painstaking way he prepared the garden for pole beans.

Anyone who knew Jack knew he loved to weave stories of his family’s past and share those stories and memories (both true and untrue) with his six grandchildren who hung on his every word. Most of all, everyone who was blessed to be in Jack’s life knew he was straightforward and always told the truth as he saw it. He was unapologetic in his love of the Lord and living his life for Him.

Jackie Steven Durham was a light and blessing to this world and he will be truly missed. His family is peacefully grieving knowing that he is rejoicing in heaven with the Lord.

Relatives and Friends are invited to greet his family on Tuesday, April 13 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the LIGHTHOUSE CHURCH, 716 Main St., Lumberton, NJ.  A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM.  Interment will follow at the PINELANDS MEMORIAL PARK, Shamong, NJ.  Arrangements are under the direction of the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, Medford, NJ.  In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, with donations made out to Virtua Health Foundation, P.O. Box 70260, Philadelphia, PA 19176 https://foundation.virtua.org/donate or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=header-btn-donate-now
