Charles M. Maltbie, Sr. died on Dec. 14 at the Masonic Home of Burlington at the age of 95.
He was a former resident of Delran. Charles was born and raised in Vineland. He enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 16 and served during World War II. Through the years, he was very active with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and was committed to boating safety. For many years he taught Boating Safety and Seamanship at the Moorestown and Palmyra High Schools.Â
Charles was the founder of Maltbie Associates, a producer of museum exhibits located in Mt. Laurel. He was an avid pilot and owned a seaplane which he flew recreationally and on safety patrols for the USCG Auxiliary. He enjoyed boating and spending time at his summer home on the Chesapeake Bay.
He was the husband of the late Norma Jean Maltbie and father of Charles Maltbie, Jr. and Robert S. Maltbie. He was also the grandfather of Charles Maltbie, III, Christopher Maltbie, Lucy Maltbie, Marina Maltbie, Holly Maltbie and Caitlin Maltbie. Charles was great grandfather of Eli Maltbie.
