RCBC to host community service Facebook Town Hall

Three speakers will discuss the importance of giving back Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.

What does it mean to serve the community?

Tune in to Rowan College at Burlington County’s (RCBS’s) final Facebook Town Hall of 2020 at 1 p.m. on Dec. 16 to hear all about it from three special guests. Join 3+1 Biology student and Service-Learning scholar Rebekah Feinberg, American Red Cross Account Executive Ashley Concilio-Regan and Soles4Souls’ Director of Operations for New Jersey and Philadelphia Lizzy Swiderski as they discuss what it means to give back and how they’ve leveraged the college to redirect operations during the pandemic.

Whether it’s through consistent blood drives, shoe collections, extended food pantry hours or raising funds for student scholarships, RCBC has come together in some big ways since March. In fact, the college has run 14 blood drives and collected 471 units of blood in just nine months, potentially saving 1,413 lives. The college will host two more blood drives Jan. 7 and Jan. 20.

“We’ve been so appreciative to RCBC for all of the drives and collecting so much during this pandemic. Although globally we are not collecting the same amount of blood as is typical during this time, we are consistently running at the same places over and over which helps fill the need,” Concilio-Regan shared.

RCBC’s Soles4Souls shoe collection bin was one of five placed throughout the state. It yielded over 1,000 pairs of shoes and more than 500 articles of clothing.

“Our mission at Soles4Souls is twofold: We provide free shoes to people in need and promote sustainable business practices aiming to keep clothing and shoes out of landfills,” Swiderski said.

Rebekah Feinberg, a 3+1 Biology student, will share her experiences volunteering at the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford. She volunteers weekly, helping with rehabilitation efforts and administering medication to wildlife.
