Haddonfield Middle School teacher lauds graduating class in extraordinary times.

To the Haddonfield Middle School Class of 2020,

Congratulations on your completion of middle school! As both a class and individual, you all have so much to be proud of during your middle-school years. Let’s address the elephant in the room: the conclusion of your time here at HMS has been unlike anything ever seen. But every single one of you in your own way rose to the occasion, and that in itself is inspiring.

Personally, I feel like I grew up as a teacher alongside your class. We learned from each other, laughed with one another, and picked each other up. I consider myself fortunate to have taught many of the HMS class of 2020 in both 7th and 8th grade, as well as advising you in different clubs. The relationships that we developed and connections we made will always hold a special place in my heart.

You may feel a mix of excitement and apprehension as you leave HMS and start a new chapter at the high school. But if these unusual times have taught us anything, you are certainly ready for the many successes and unique challenges that high school will present.

Don’t be afraid of failure; take risks and leave your comfort zone. I promise you’ll grow.

Continue to stand up for your values and advocate on behalf of your classmates. Take care of one another. Treat each other with empathy and kindness.

And find something you absolutely love and pour passion and hard work into it.

It saddens me that we won’t have a traditional farewell, but, looking at the glass half full, I will be beaming with pride from afar as you make a positive mark in high school and continue to build off the many incredible qualities you established here at HMS.

I love you all.

Mr. Maxson
