Harrison Township Police recently arrested a Wenonah man who was found to have conducted multiple thefts from vehicles in at least three different municipalities.
On April 11, during the early morning hours, the Harrison Township Police Department was dispatch to the 700 block of Clark Drive after receiving a call from a resident who was alerted by her Ring doorbell camera regarding a suspicious person walking past her residence.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Matthew Neely observed an occupied vehicle parked on the shoulder of the roadway. As Sgt. Neely approached the vehicle, he observed credit cards and identifications which were found not to have belonged to the occupant. An investigation ensued and as a result, the occupant who was identified as Louis Capelli, Jr., a 23-year-old male from Wenonah, was found to be in possession of additional stolen property. At the time of the incident, Capelli was taken into custody, charged with receiving stolen property, violation of Executive Order 107A:9-49H and released pending a central first appearance in accordance with the New Jersey Criminal Reform Act.
A subsequent follow-up investigation was conducted by detectives from the Harrison Township, Woolwich Township and Elk Township police departments. As a result of their investigation, Capelli was charged with 15 counts of burglary and 12 counts of theft from motor vehicles in Harrison Township, 10 counts of burglary and eight counts theft from motor vehicles Woolwich Township and three counts of burglary and three theft from motor vehicles from Elk Township. Based on these additional charges, Capelli, who was in custody for an unrelated matter, was remanded to the Salem County Jail.
