Barbara “Bobbie” (Holmes) White, 86, formerly of Wayne, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in Malvern, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 11, 2020. She was born on July 27, 1933 to Ernest R. Holmes and Mildred “Millie” (Rice) Holmes of Neptune, New Jersey.
Bobbie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Deanna) White of Dimondale, Michigan; granddaughter Lindsey White of New York City; Todd “Randy” (Dorothy) White, and grandsons Brandon and William of West Chester, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Wayne and later a long-time member of Paoli Presbyterian Church.
Bobbie graduated from Neptune High School in 1951, where she was treasurer of her freshman class, a student council representative, on the school’s paper staff and a member of the National Honor Society. She also received a varsity letter in cheerleading.
After graduating from the University of Delaware in 1955, she was granted teaching certificates from the states of Delaware and New Jersey, and taught first through eighth grades at Jefferson Grammar School in Westfield, New Jersey. Bobbie married Frank L. White of Wilmington, Delaware, also a UoD grad and a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, on June 30, 1956, in Neptune, New Jersey. After moving to Wisconsin to pursue their careers, Bobbie went on to receive a teaching certificate from the State of Wisconsin in 1960.
Bobbie volunteered at Paoli Memorial Hospital, served on the board, was a committee chair and a branch president. She loved to play tennis, especially doubles with her friends and family, loved to socialize and to travel. She went on to receive a professional certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education to teach elementary school in 1981, and graduated from West Chester University in 1983 with a master of science in instructional media, earning 3.5 GPA. Bobbie worked for a short time with NFL Films and also worked to develop instructional videos for GM cars.
A Memorial Service will be held on Feb. 28, in the Chapel at Paoli Presbyterian Church (225 South Valley Road, Paoli, PA, 19301) at 11 a.m., with Pastor Becca Bruner officiating. A lunch reception will follow in Churchill Hall at noon.
