One dead, four injured following two traffic accidents in Monroe Township

The two accidents occurred on separate roads less than one hour apart on Sunday evening.

Monroe Township Police responded to two serious motor vehicles happening less than an hour apart on Sunday evening.

The first accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on the Black Horse Pike near the intersection with South Main Street. The preliminary investigation showed that a 1991 Ford F-150 driven by a 55-year-old male from Egg Harbor Township, entered the highway just west of South Main Street. The driver of the F-150 failed to yield to a 2017 Ford Focus driven by a 28-year-old male from Williamstown and as a result, the vehicles collided.

Upon impact, the F-150 pickup caught on fire and slid to a stop on the shoulder while the Focus slid into the grass median. The male driving the F-150 sustained serious burns to most of his body and was air lifted to the hospital while the driver of the Focus was taken to the hospital for general evaluation.

Later, at about 7:20 p.m., Monroe Township Police and other emergency services were dispatched to Malaga Road near Bracken Drive for a serious motor vehicle crash. Officers arrived and found a two car crash involving a pickup truck and a Jeep.

A preliminary investigation showed that the S-10 pickup driven by a 27-year-old male from Minitola, was traveling west on Malaga Road when it collided head-on with the Jeep Wrangler that was traveling east and driven by a 39-year-old male from Williamstown. The crash occurred approximately a half mile west of Bracken Drive. After the collision, the Jeep rolled over on its side and stopped off the roadway while the S-10 remained on the roadway. The driver of the Jeep along with his 42-year-old female, and 4-year-old male passengers, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the S-10 died on the scene.
