A family of four was displaced following a house fire in the Hilltop neighborhood Gloucester Township.
On Wednesday, June 26 at approximately 5:06 p.m., Gloucester Township Police responded to the 1400 Block of North Black Horse Pike for a report of a house fire. The Gloucester Township Fire Department and Runnemede Fire Department arrived and observed smoke and fire coming from the area of the front door. Arriving police units verified the residence was evacuated and shut down the Black Horse Pike for about thirty minutes while the fire departments extinguished the fire. Gloucester Township EMS also responded to the scene to assist, however, there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
At this time it is believed the cause of the fire is non-suspicious but is still under investigation by the Chews Landing Fire Marshal. As a result of damage sustained to the residence, a family of four was displaced. Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management responded to assist the displaced residents with finding temporary housing and coordinating with the Red Cross.
Residents are reminded to make sure proper working smoke alarms are installed on all levels of their home and be sure to test them monthly. families should also have an escape plan and practice it twice per year.
