County offering free eye screenings

The screenings are offered at the county health department in Sewell.

The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced free eye screenings are now available to all residents. Services are offered once a month at the Gloucester County Health Department at 204 East Holly Avenue in Sewell.

“There are many residents that do not have the funds or insurance to cover an eye exam,” Freeholder Director Robert Damminger said. “With the free eye screening program, all you need to do to become eligible is make an appointment.”

“We are pleased to partner with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired to offer this free service to the residents of Gloucester County,” Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Gloucester County Department of Health, said.

Screenings are free of charge. Children from the age of 4 to 17 are welcomed, but require the signature of a parent or guardian.

Appointments are required for the screenings. To schedule an appointment, call (856) 384–6842. Appointments occur between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
