Police say the incident took place in the early morning hours of Feb. 3. in the township’s Ravenscliff Development.
The following information is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:
On Feb 3 at 3 a.m., an officer was patrolling in the Ravenscliff Development when he observed a male wearing dark clothing allegedly flee from a vehicle with its door open in the 400 block of Justice Drive.
A closer examination of the vehicle revealed that the vehicle was allegedly burglarized.
As officers were responding to the area, the homeowner came outside and advised the officer on scene that his residential burglar alarm was activated due to someone allegedly attempting to enter into the front door of the house.
One of the responding officers located a suspicious vehicle leaving a neighborhood park a few blocks away.
The driver of that vehicle allegedly refused to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed before crashing into a wooded area a few blocks away.
Police say the occupants of that vehicle then immediately fled into the wooded area behind the Ravenscliff Development.
A large scale perimeter was established and an Evesham K-9 and a state police helicopter were utilized in an attempt to locate the individuals, but individuals were not located during the search.
Police believe they allegedly stole a vehicle in the 400 block of Elmwood Road and another vehicle on Lakefield Drive and fled the area.
Each vehicle owner reported their keys were left inside of their vehicles.
The vehicle that crashed in the woods was found to be reported stolen from Gloucester City and appeared to allegedly contain a large amount of burglary proceeds.
According to police, the investigation has determined that numerous vehicles in the Woodstream and Ravenscliff developments were targeted by the group.
Investigators are currently working to identify the stolen proceeds located inside the recovered stolen vehicle in an effort to quickly return the belongings to the proper owners.
Evesham Police Department would like to remind the residents to lock the doors to their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight to prevent easy targets for people committing these types of crimes.
