Bernard Tighe was able to safely stop the vehicle of suicidal male who had ingested a large amount of prescription medication.
The Evesham Township Police Department has named Officer Bernard Tighe as the department’s “Officer of the Month” for the month of December 2018.
Police say they are commending Tighe for an incident in December during one morning rush-hour, when Tighe responded to the area of Baltimore Drive for a report of a suicidal male who had ingested a large amount of prescription medication and left his home in a vehicle.
While responding, Tighe was able to locate the erratically driven vehicle on Route 70 in the area of Troth Road. Tighe was able to safely stop the vehicle and assess the driver, who was impaired and presented a serious public safety hazard. The driver was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated and provided with the medical and psychological help.
Tighe’s ability to quickly locate the vehicle, likely prevented the driver and innocent people from being seriously hurt.
Tighe has been a member of the Evesham Police Department for one year.
Tighe is being commended for his investigative skills and commitment to making the township a safer place.
