The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Gloucester County Workforce Development Board and Rowan College at Gloucester County, in coordination with Atlantic City Electric, will be offering information sessions to residents interested in starting a career in the energy and utilities industry.
“The ACE Quick Path to Energy program is designed as a direct solution to the energy and utilities industry’s immediate need for skilled workers, introducing and preparing residents to transition directly into the industry,” said Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger.
“The county received a grant to implement free workforce training programs for Atlantic City Electric designed to help students in the programs gain the skills and requirements necessary to enter the energy and utilities industries,” said Freeholder Heather Simmons Liaison to the Department of Economic Development.
“By offering these programs through the college for no charge, we hope to prepare interested residents to meet the entry requirements set by the energy and utilities industries and encouraging them to enter the field,” said Simmons. “Successful participants may even have the opportunity to complete the pre-employment process, including an interview with ACE or another industry-leading company,”
To qualify in the ACE Quick Path to Energy program, participants must be residents of New Jersey, 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. Participants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and will be assessed to determine if their current math and reading levels meet the class requirement.
The two classes that will be offered at Rowan College at Gloucester County are the “Get into Energy” Math Program focused on preparation to take the Construction and Skilled Trades exam, and the Women in Sustainable Energy Program is designed to introduce women to career paths in sustainable energy.
Information sessions will be held at Rowan College of Gloucester County on: Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. and Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
Classes will start in mid-February. Additional training classes will be offered by local colleges at training sites in the southern counties of Atlantic, Camden, Cumberland and Salem.
