Weekly Roundup: Toy drive, safe space top this week’s stories

A local family is bringing a little holiday cheer to families in the hospital, and members of the LGBTQ+ community can seek solace on Main Street. Catch up on everything from the past week in the Weekly Roundup.

First Baptist to create refuge for LGBTQ+ youth and their allies

PRISM, the church’s safe space for LGBTQ+ community members and their allies, will welcome youths ages 13 to 18. The outreach program is welcome to anyone regardless of their religion, and will be a place for youths to meet fellow LGBTQ+ community members, get resources and share their experiences in a supportive environment that meets several times a month.

Providing healing through play

Having experienced it firsthand, the Hubbard family is eager to make the season a little cheerier for those confined to the hospital. On Sunday, Dec.16 from 5 to 8 p.m., the family will host the 1st Annual Kennedy’s Cause Toy Drive to collect toys for Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children where Kennedy spent her longest hospitalization.
