Get ready to get in the holiday spirit with multiple events ready to liven up the community just in time for the holidays
Berlin Borough is preparing for multiple holiday events within the community this holiday season. Be sure to bundle up and be ready for these events and more.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, at 6 p.m., a Santa Parade sponsored by the Berlin Rotary, will take place in the downtown business area of the White Horse Pike. Following the parade, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will commence on the front lawn of Borough Hall with Santa Claus.
Afterward, the festivities and socializing continues in the Marie Fleche Memorial Library at an open house from 6 to 8 p.m.
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School will provide entertainment and refreshments. In back of the library, local crafters and vendors will be on display through the Kindlemart Christmas tent, thanks to the Greater Berlin Business and Professional Association.
Also on Saturday, Dec 1, will be the 25th Annual Eastern Regional High School Holiday Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school. More than 100 vendors will display handcrafted items, including paintings, hand-blown glass, pottery, wooden crafts and more. The Viking Café will be open for lunch, and there will be basket raffles throughout the day.
The Friends of the Marie Fleche Memorial Library are selling raffle tickets for their winter basket. Tickets can be purchased during normal business hours. All proceeds support the library and the annual scholarship fund. The basket includes a $50 gift card to ShopRite, a bottle of wine, chocolates and more. Visit the Marie Fleche Memorial Library for more information. Tickets are two for $1.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, residents of Berlin Borough and those across South Jersey have an opportunity like no other in the area.
The Downtown Berlin Revitalization Corp will host its Historic Holiday Tour from 3 to 8 p.m., giving a tour of the downtown Berlin’s historic district, such as New Jersey’s oldest railroad station, the old post office, historic homes, vintage displays, collectibles, newly restored properties and more.
“There is a budding arts district growing in downtown Berlin,” Cindy Williams, program director for the DBRC. “The tour seeks to give our visitors a historic view of our town.”
The tours are $15 per person and leave every 45 minutes in the village square, with the tour lasting about an hour and a half. There is also a self-tour available for $10 that offers at least 10 locations to visit and explore, including a historic bell for residents to ring.
The Historic Holiday Tour seeks to further promote the growing revitalization of downtown Berlin by opening up the history of the borough on one night for residents to explore.
“Everyone wants an arts district,” Williams said. “But what kind? Not everyone can offer a preservations art district like we can. Nobody else has that in South Jersey.”
Be sure to visit all locations and aspects of the Historic Holiday Tour, as events will be going on throughout the borough. Santa will be at the old train station for pictures, raffle tickets will also be sold throughout the evening.
The event is put on completely by volunteers, and all proceeds go toward downtown revitalization and the preservation arts district.
