New agreement reached with school in Sendai
The Haddonfield Japan Exchange Committee has acted swiftly to ensure that the long established student exchange between Haddonfield High School and its Japanese counterparts will continue in 2019.
Upon receiving the final word from Kasukabe Girls High School that it would no longer host male students, the committee jumped into action, and after considering several alternate schools to replace Kasukabe in the exchange program, selected Sendai Ikawe Gakuen, located in Sendai, Japan.
“The HJE is eagerly looking forward to welcoming our new visitors. While the HMHS Students that visited Kasukabe and who were warmly welcomed by their hosting students will be disappointed, in return, they eagerly look forward to making new friends from Japan,” said HJE director Bill Brown in a statement.
In preparations for our incoming guests in 2019, the HJE Committee has begun to accept applications for host families. While the dates for the visit have not been finalized, it should include a two-week period including the last portion of July and the early part of August.
In addition to the usual lifestyle adopted by each host family, the HJE Committee will provide daily weekday educational and enjoyable activities. The host family will be asked to provide activities on weekends, which include, but are not limited to shopping, walks around town, going to a local swim club, or a trip to the movies.
One final requirement for host families, will be to transport your guest to the high school on weekdays where most activities will commence.
If interested, or if you know of someone else that might enjoy the pleasure of hosting, take a look at our website, www.HJEx.org, for an application. Brown can be reached at (856) 429–4368.
