Five players scored goals to push the Rebellion into a 6–1 victory over Gateway.
Sarah Foster scored two goals and five different players found the back of the net as the Mantua U-9 Rebellion defeated the Gateway Blue Lightning, 6–1, on Saturday in a South Jersey Girls Soccer League game.
Lily Cini got the goal parade started just three minutes into the game. Off a pass from Chelsea Volfson, Cini dribbled into the 18-yard box and fired the ball into the net.
Foster scored her first goal, on an assist from Francesca LaGuarina, to make it 2–0, while Madalyn Worst and Foster each added unassisted goals as the Rebellion carried a 4–0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Avelin Wells converted on a penalty kick with a perfectly-placed shot in the left corner, and Mya Cammarata capped the scoring with a goal.
Emma Burdey played the entire game in goal and made eight saves. Lilly McNamara, Alexa Goldstein, and Reily Rosauer each played well in the victory, which improved the Rebellion to 3–0.
The Rebellion next travel this Saturday to face the Pitman Mountain Cats.
“The girls played an amazing game on Sept. 22, and the coaching staff is so proud of them,” Rebellion Head Coach John Cini said. “They’re clicking so well together and we know there are great things to come for this awesome group of girls.”
