Mayor’s Message: Mullica Hill Business Association organizing new events for town

Guest speaker and Vice President of the Mullica Hill Business Association TJ Coakley speaks on planned events

This week TJ Coakley, Vice President of the Mullica Hill Business Association (MHBA), provides an update on upcoming events. TJ and his wife Fran are residents and dedicated supporters of our town. They own the Okinawa Kenpo Karate Academy (OKKA) on Main Street in Mullica Hill. Learn more at https://okkakaratemullicahill.com/.

Here’s TJ:

I would like to thank Mayor Lou for allowing the Mullica Hill Business Association (MHBA) to use his column this week. The MHBA has been hard at work this year organizing two new events for town. Wizards, Witches, and Wands in Mullica Hill (WWW) is our first standalone Harry Potter-themed festival. We are planning a street wide event, featuring everything from Sorting and Potions classes to Wand and Broom making.

Several local business owners have stepped up to help with venues and many community members are volunteering on the planning committee. You may have heard about a recent crackdown by Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc. over copyright issues, sending festivals nationwide scrambling to re-work their programs.

To avoid any issues, our planning team has worked diligently to maintain the spirited theme of Harry Potter, while adding a Mullica Hill flair. The Mullica Hill School of Magic, for example, will be the central location and feature a Sorting Ceremony as well as a Magic Penitentiary. Other venues will be spread out along Main Street from St. Stephens Church south to Old Town Hall.

Tickets are available on Ticketleap (Search Wizards Witches and Wands) and please follow us at www.facebook.com/WizardsWitchesWandsMH for event updates. If you are a Potter fan and would like to volunteer to dress up and assist, please message us on this Facebook page.

The other new event we have been working on will be known as “A Taste of the Season”. This Main Street wide event will feature participating businesses providing holiday music, beverages and treats in the spirit of the holiday season. The tentative date for the event is November 10 and we expect to have at least 20 local businesses participating. If you enjoyed our Valentine’s Day Chocolate Walk this past February, you will really enjoy the “Taste of the Season” event.

The MHBA wants to ensure the residents of Harrison Township know about our local professionals, merchants, and service providers. The town has a lot to offer to our residents, in addition to attracting folks from elsewhere. Sponsoring events is one of the ways we bring “feet to the street” and provide exposure to everything our hometown has to offer.

Check out MullicaHill.com/Events for a full list of MHBA events. And please remember to buy and shop local whenever possible — it makes a difference. We look forward to seeing you in town.
