Summer theater program to put on free shows for county residents

Press release from the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders

The Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Gloucester County Parks and Recreation invites residents to take advantage of free summer productions performed by the youth in the county’s summer theater program.

This year’s two shows, The Little Mermaid Jr. and The Show Must Go On (one act play), and Shrek, The Musical will all run for three days each and will feature the talents of a cast ranging from ages 8 to 17 who are excited to show off what they have been rehearsing in this year’s summer theater program.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “These talented casts and crews have been hard at work for weeks rehearsing and putting everything together for these shows. These shows are fun, free, and family-friendly and attending is a great way to show support for the theatre program and the kids who are involved.”

Due to limited seating tickets are required. Tickets will be available at the door, but if you want to make sure you don’t miss out on one of these shows, you can call (856) 589–0047 to “preorder” tickets and avoid the risk of no available seats. Residents who call ahead will also be able to go to the head of the line by picking up their tickets at the call window at the theatre.

Freeholder Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the Department of Parks, said, “Summer theater is one of the most popular of the county’s summer programs. We are always at capacity with youth who want to be a part of these fun productions.”

DiMarco said that the productions will take place on the following dates:

The Little Mermaid Jr. and The Show Must Go On (one act play)
Rowan College at Gloucester County Fine Arts Facility featuring the Junior Players (ages 8–12)

Thursday August 9 and Friday Aug 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday August 11 at 2 p.m.

Shrek, The Musical
Rowan College at Gloucester County Fine Arts Facility featuring the Teen Players (ages 13–17)

Thursday August 16, Friday Aug 17, and Saturday August 18 at 7:30 p.m.
