Three new officers take posts in the Mantua Township Police Department
● The Mantua Township Police Department welcomed three new officers on June 4. On June 1, Mantua’s police force took over control of the Borough of Wenonah after a Superior Court judge ruled the shared services agreement between the two municipalities legal. The agreement noted that Mantua must absorb the five Wenonah officers with employment status and salary intact. However, only one officer from Wenonah chose to take up employment with Mantua, patrolman William Schnarr. In addition to Schnarr, the township hired two additional officers to counter the additional coverage area and population: patrolmen Jesse Bair and Salvatore Oldrati.
● At the start of the meeting, the committee read a proclamation recognizing June 4 as Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day. Present to receive the proclamation was a local family whose three children have been diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary tics and vocalizations. May 15 through June 15 is recognized nationally as Tourette Syndrome Awareness month.
