Board also discussed new committees, honored student who received state awards
The Burlington Township Board of Education on May 23 approved a new food services contract and also voted in favor of a slight increase in meal prices for the township’s schools.
The $28,980 contract for next school year’s food program was awarded to Princeton Management Food Associates. It represents an increase of about $587, or 2.2 percent, from what the district is paying for food services in the current year, according to documents provided by the board.
Princeton Food Management Associates was the only company to submit a bid for the contract, according to the board’s agenda.
In addition, the Board of Education also approved a slight increase in student meal prices for next year. Breakfast and milk prices for students in all grade levels will be increasing by five cents, while lunch prices will be increasing by 10 cents.
The price changes are in response to a federal mandate to close the gap between the cost of a meal and reimbursement, according to Board of Education documents.

· Also during the May 23 meeting, Board Vice President Susan Eichmann spoke about the formation of two ad hoc committees to get feedback from members of the public.
Eichmann said the board will soon be forming a Climate Survey Advisory Committee to examine and discuss the results of a community-wide survey that was conducted earlier this year.
“We have the results, and there were some community members who expressed interest in being part of a group to discuss that and give feedback on those results,” said Eichmann, who is chairperson of the board’s Strategic Planning Committee.
The second committee that will be formed is an Athletic Advisory Committee that will look at current and potential athletic programs within the district.
“That did come about as a result of our budget discussion earlier this year,” Eichmann said.
More information on how residents can participate or serve on the committees will be released in the coming weeks, Eichmann said. The committees are expected to start meeting sometime this summer.
· The Board of Education also honored student Jacob Moskovitz, who recently received two awards as part of the New Jersey Governor’s Awards in Art Education program.
Moskovitz, a senior, won the Musical Theatre Solo Award and the New Jersey Young Playwrights Festival Award.
“These are amazing accomplishments,” Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Ann Marie Britt said during the meeting. “We are so proud of Jake, who is a senior and who plans to pursue his study in the arts after he graduates.”
