Medford realtors clean up parks

On May 10, “RED Day” community service event took place.

Keller Williams Medford team about to embark on their RED Day cleanup duties.

More than 30 real estate agents from the Medford office of Keller Williams Realty — the area’s largest real estate firm — took a day off from selling houses to help their community. They spent May 10 spreading out through the enormous Medford park system picking up trash, branches that had fallen during recent storms and general detritus to help beautify the Freedom, Tomlinson, and Medford Parks. Several thousand pounds of debris was removed from the parks.

“Keller Williams has giving back to the communities we serve as a part of our very DNA,” said Dave Hargrave, the office team leader. Every year, each Keller Williams office in the entire world closes down on the second Thursday in May for RED Day (Renew-Energize-Donate) and everybody from the CEO to the newest-hired team member goes into the community to help make it better.

“We have previously given our time on RED Day to work at an orphanage, a food bank, Hurricane Sandy relief, and a community garden,” said Mike Alessi, the office’s Broker. “This has been the best year we’ve ever had for selling homes, so it was great to all be together as a team while doing good for our community.”

One unintended consequence of the KW team walking around picking up trash — all wearing the required safety vests — was that at least one member of the public evidently thought they were convicts. As one resident rode by on her bike, she yelled out, “You did the crime, now do the time!”

“As Realtors, we get to hear just about everything,” said Hargrave.
