The incident unfolded early Friday morning.
The following report is from the Berlin Police Department:
On May 11 at approximately 2:30 a.m., a Berlin Police Patrolman observed and made an attempt to stop a motor vehicle, which was identified as a stolen vehicle from Trenton, traveling east on the White Horse Pike.
The vehicle fled upon the officer initiating the traffic stop. Officers pursued the vehicle on to Washington Avenue at a high rate of speed. The stolen vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on Route 73. Two males were observed exiting the vehicle and running on foot towards Oak Avenue. One male was apprehended by Patrol and a Berlin K9 Unit. The male, now identified as a juvenile, was taken in to custody and brought to the Berlin Borough police department for processing.
At approximately 11 a.m., a call was received through Central Communications in reference to a male who was sleeping in a trailer on Route 73 in the area of Oak Avenue. When approached by police, the male then fled on foot. A perimeter of the area was established, and a canvas of the area began including several K9’s from various jurisdictions.
While searching the area, the male who had burglarized a second vehicle fled once again on foot and a foot pursuit with officers began. The male, after escaping through rear yards, was found to have burglarized a residence in Berlin Township while officers searched the area.
At approximately 2 p.m. the male, who had now stolen items to help conceal his identity from the residence, was apprehended by police while he attempted to walk away from the area. The second male was also a juvenile.
Both juveniles are being held at the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center.
A Berlin officer suffered minor injuries during the arrests, and was cleared by a local hospital. The second juvenile was also charged with various offenses out of Berlin Township.
