Camp Firefly’s 13th annual camp for bereaved children will take place this August

Camp Firefly is a one-night overnight camp being held on Aug. 25 to Aug. 26 at Camp Ockanickon in Medford. The camp is geared toward children ages 7 to 14 who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Children must live in Burlington, Camden or Gloucester counties to attend the camp, and there is no cost to campers or their families.

For those interested in attending or volunteering at Camp Firefly, more information can be found on www.moorestownvna.org, by calling (856) 552–1300 or by emailing [email protected]. Applications for campers are being accepted until July 25, and applications for volunteer counselors are being accepted until July 30.

Local Girl Scout is saving the world one craft at a time

Nicole Sander is “saving the world one craft at a time” with her Girl Scout Gold Award project. The name of the project says it all, with Sander recycling household items by turning them into crafts, games or gifts, allowing less trash to accumulate in landfills.

Sander has been a Girl Scout for 13 years, crossing the bridge from being a Daisy to being a Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior and now Ambassador.

Sander will be given the Gold Award pin at the pinning ceremony that will be held on May 20. Sander has chosen her older sister Lauren, who has continued her Girl Scout career as part of the Gold Award Committee, to do the honor of pinning her.

Prom House 110 Carranza provides safe after-prom activities

The after-prom celebration, Prom House 110 Carranza, takes on its fifth year at Seneca High School. The event is structured in a way that allows students to participate in safe and fun substance-free activities after prom.

All seniors, whether they attend prom or not, are invited to join the lock-in event on May 12 from midnight to 5 a.m., directly following prom. Students can bring prom dates who do not attend Seneca for a night full of food, games and prizes.

Tickets to attend are $5 for any senior in good standing, those who attend prom and their dates. A signed permission slip is also required. Students who attend are required to stay for the entire event. For more information or to donate to the event, contact Maira at [email protected].
