Moorestown’s first walking club comes to town

The goal of MooreWalk is to get residents on their feet and exploring the town.

By: Amy Filippone, Dept. of Parks & Recreation

The Moorestown Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce the formation of its very first walking club — MooreWalk. The kick-off for information is April 25 at 6 p.m. at the Church Street Recreation Center on the third floor. The Recreation Department, Exit 4 Boot Camp and various Moorestown groups will be on hand to present the mission of the club.

Their vision is to create a community of all ages to explore the outdoors, exercise and embark on a healthier lifestyle. This holistic approach includes connecting with other people, learning about our local parks, open space, neighborhoods and of course — walking.

The Mayo Clinic simply states that walking: maintains a healthy weight, prevents or manages various conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes; strengthens bones and muscles; improves your mood and improves your balance and coordination. We all probably know this, but now there’s a group that provides the structure and community that makes it easy to do. Just show up and the rest will be taken care of.

Current plans are for morning, afternoon and evening walks during the week and Saturday to work around your schedule. Guided-walks through our local parks and open space are also underway. It’s the perfect time of year to observe the reawakening of nature and to enjoy new friendships.

Light refreshments and appetizers will be served at the kick-off. Chef Katie Sklarow will be creating healthy, locally-sourced appetizers to launch this new program that will focus on maintaining a healthy diet.

So get in on the ground floor and join us on April 25. There is no cost to attend, but we would like to know how many are coming so please register at www.moorestownrec.com. If you are unable to attend the kick-off and are interested in our new program, please email [email protected] or call (856)914–3093 for further information.
