Weekly Roundup: Tish Colombi and road program top this week’s stories

Catch up on the biggest stories in Haddonfield this week.

Tish Colombi gets recognized and commissioners accepted a bid for the 2018 road program. Catch up on everything from the past week in the Weekly Roundup.

Tish Colombi gets recognized for her years of community service

Some 1,800 miles from her hometown of Odessa, Texas, Tish Colombi has found ways to give back to Haddonfield in more ways than one, and clearly her neighbors have taken notice by naming her the recipient of the 2018 Alfred E. Driscoll Award for Community Service. “She’s worked tirelessly to give back to the community as an elected official and as a community volunteer,” board of governors and head of the nomination committee Jack O’Malley said. “She didn’t just close up shop once she left office.”

Haddon Indivisible comes up with new ways to engage residents

It was a typical morning when Lorrie and Kip Veasey, founders of Haddon Indivisible, walked outside to see their sign reading “Hate Has No Home Here” had been tampered with. “We had a knife plunged through our sign,” Kip said. This was one of the moments when the couple knew there was a need for a group in the community where political and social issues could be discussed in a safe and open-minded way. With the goal to create a safe space to talk about ideas in town, both Kip and Lorrie were prompted to start the group Haddon Indivisible, a sister group of Copper River Indivisible, in March 2017.

Commissioners award bid for road program

It was a light agenda at the commissioners meeting on Tuesday, April 10. Commissioners accepted a bid for the 2018 road program and will be moving forward with working toward fixing roads in Haddonfield. In addition to borough agreements, commissioners also signed a waiver and release with the Philadelphia Museum of Art to allow two paintings to be displayed in the library.
