Mantua Fire Department engage in a busy week

Department responds to multiple calls in late March

March 26

On Monday, March 26, at 6:56 p.m., members of the Mantua Township Fire District and Deptford Fire District were dispatched to State Highway Route 55 at mile marker 53.5 south bound for a reported vehicle fire.

Engine Company 2212 responded immediately with a crew of three personnel. The vehicle was found in the southbound lane just north of exit 53. Engine Company 2212 traveled north to exit 56 to respond back southbound.

Engine Company 2212 arrived to find a vehicle well involved in fire, and stretched a single 1 3/4" hand line to quickly extinguish the active fire. Once the fire was brought under control the scene was turned over to New Jersey State Police and Engine Company 2212 was released without incident.

March 25

On Sunday, March 25, at 2:50 a.m. members of the Mantua Township Fire District responded to 112 Georgetown Rd. in the Borough of Glassboro for a working dwelling fire.

Squad Company 2218 responded immediately with a staffing of seven personnel. Chief 2600 arrived on scene and reported a 1.5 story single family dwelling with heavy fire throughout. Engine Company 2611 arrived and stretched two 1 3/4″ hand lines to battle the active fire. Squad Company 2218 arrived as the second due engine company and secured a water source. Crew from 2218 assisted with extinguishment and a search of the dwelling.

Once the fire was brought under control, crews assisted with salvage and overhaul as well as scene clean up until released by command. The fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester County Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews operated on scene for approximately two hours with no injuries reported.

Units on Location: Chief 2600, Engine Companies 2611, 2613 and 2313, Ladder Companies 2616 and 2816, Squad Companies 2218 and 4118 as well as Cascade 2328.
