Knudsen to serve two years before eligible for parole
Press Release: Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office
Roger R. Knudsen, 56, Mullica Hill, was sentenced today
to four years in New Jersey state prison after pleading guilty to five indictments charging him with driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license and for operation of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
The motor vehicle stops resulting in the charges occurred from May 25, 2016 to Sept. 9, 2017, all in Harrison Township. On May 25, 2016, he was stopped during the state-sponsored “Click it or Ticket” program in which extra patrols are funded to look for drivers who were not secured with a seat belt. His suspended status for a 2013 DUI and two suspended driver offenses that same year was subsequently discovered and an unlicensed driver complaint signed.
On July 1, 2017, Knudsen was stopped for crossing the center line of a Harrison Township road and charged for driving while suspended. On July 16, 2017, he was stopped by a police officer who had prior knowledge Knudsen was driving while his license was suspended.
On July 26, 2017, he was stopped for failing to use a seatbelt and not maintaining his vehicle in a lane and for driving while suspended. On Sept. 9, 2017, the vehicle stop was again by an officer who knew Knudsen’s driver’s license was suspended.
Knudsen had six DUI convictions between 1985 and 2013 prior to the five suspended driver offenses to which he plead guilty.
Operating a motor vehicle during a period of license suspension for a second or subsequent DUI is a fourth-degree offense that carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in state prison.
Under terms of a plea agreement with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and made part of his sentence today by Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith, Knudsen must serve two years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
