Threat Update: Both schools open on March 15; threat still under investigation

Local, county and state police are investigating source of threat

UPDATED: 6:05 p.m., March 14

The District released a statement stating the high school and middle schools will open tomorrow, March 15.

“ Please know that we take every threat seriously. The safety of our students and staff is OUR priority! Upon the completion of the canine search earlier today, we checked every hall locker in the district. We do believe our buildings are safe and expect to be OPEN tomorrow, Thursday, March 15th. As a precautionary measure, there will be a substantial police presence tomorrow.”

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 13 the Harrison Township Police Department received an anonymous tip involving a threat at the Clearveiw Regional School District.

The Harrison Township Police Department, along with other local, County, and State agencies, worked through the night and is still looking into the source of the threat. As a precautionary measure, school district officials closed the school on Wednesday, March 14.

The Harrison Township Police Department takes the safety of our schools and students very seriously and is currently working closely with school officials and other law enforcement agencies investigating this threat. If anyone has any information that may be helpful in resolving this matter, please contact Det. Adam McEvoy at (856) 478–6839 or Gloucester County Communication at (856) 589–0911.

Again, this is an ongoing investigation and as more information becomes available, it will be provided in future releases.

The Clearview Regional School District posted this message on the district’s website this morning:

The Clearview Regional School District has received information from the Harrison Township Police Department about an anonymous potential threat to our high school today — March 14.

We have been working with our local authorities investigating this matter. Members of the Gloucester County Sherriff’s Department and New Jersey State Police Canine units conducted a sweep of the school over the past few hours and no weapons were found. However, due to the lack of specificity to the threat, we continue to investigate this issue with caution.

As always, student safety remains our first priority. Due to the ongoing investigation, the Clearview Regional School will be closed today, Wednesday, March 14. If anyone has information regarding this threat we ask that you contact the Harrison Township Police Department.
