Sweetheart Stories: Love story going back to World War II

Cherry Hill resident May Brill shares her story with the Cherry Hill Sun.

The story that led to our first meeting started with my enlisting in the waves during World War II. You were entitled to go to school after you left the service. While standing in line at Temple, the girl in front of me introduced herself. She had been in the Army. She invited me to go out with her boyfriend and his friend. That was how we started our friendship. After dating for a while, I came to greet him in my living room and found him holding his middle finger up with a diamond ring on it. ‘What is that,” I asked. ‘Do you want it,’ he replied. ‘What goes with it,’ I asked. He said, ‘Me.’

After 39 years of marriage and four daughters, he succumbed to cancer. He will always be remembered.
