The Library Association announces upcoming March events and programs
Special to The Sun
Dear Friends,
For the second year in a row, the Burlington County Library System is a recipient of the NEA Big Read grant. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
Join us on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. for a lively discussion of this year’s reading selection, In the Time of Butterflies, by Julia Alvarez. In the Time of Butterflies is a historical novel relating the account of the Mirabal sisters during the time of the dictatorship of General Rafael Trujilo in the Dominican Republic. The book is written in first and third person as the Mirabal sisters, Las Mariposas, The Butterflies, share decades of their lives of joy, sorrow and courage under political oppression.
On Friday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m., we will be celebrating a special birthday. Dr. Seuss would have been 114 years old. We will be sharing some of your favorite stories followed by a special activity. This event is for children ages 3 to 6 years old.
This is a good time of year to remind you of our ongoing programs. Every other Tuesday, we have Parachute Play for children 2 to 4 years old who are accompanied by a caregiver. There are two sessions, at 10:30 and 11 a.m. The next session is March 8.
Our friendly registered dieticians from Shoprite of Medford invite children, from 4 to 12 years old, to Snack Attack and Kids Can Cook. Both of these programs are designed to familiarize children with cooking, measuring and nutrition. They may even try a new food. Check with the library for dates and times.
The Paws to Read program is flourishing with therapy dogs Muffie, Gage and Savana. Call the library to register for a time. As always, our Chess Club, Lego Club and Pokemon TCG: Library League continue to thrive.
Until next time, keep turning those pages and look for the sun.
