Patrolman Austin Schmidt caught a subject in possession of cocaine, marijuana and a .32 caliber revolver.
The following report is from the Winslow Township Police Department:
On Jan. 22, at approximately 4 p.m., Winslow Township Police were dispatched to the area of Villanova Court for the report of an armed subject.
Responding officers located a person matching the description walking from Villanova Court toward the Manor Hall Development. When officers approached the subject, he began to flee on foot.
Patrolman Austin Schmidt pursued the subject down an alley behind Melwood Court. As Ptlm. Schmidt was gaining on the subject, he could see the subject reaching for his waistband. Ptlm. Schmidt was within arms reach when he realized the subject was now holding a handgun.
At that time, Ptlm. Schmidt took the subject to the ground and was able to disarm him. The subject was then taken into custody without further incident.
He is identified as 18 year old Terrell Aycox of Villanova Court in Sicklerville.
The weapon Aycox was in possession of was a .32 caliber revolver, which was fully loaded. He was also in possession of an amount of crack cocaine and marijuana. At the time of his arrest, Aycox was wearing a monitoring bracelet stemming from the conditions of NJ Bail Reform from a prior arrest. Aycox was subsequently charged with possession of handgun for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property, possession of a firearm while committing a drug offense and resisting arrest. Aycox was lodged into the Camden County jail pending a court hearing.
The department commends Ptlm. Schmidt for ending a potentially volatile situation quickly and safely.
