Shakira Davis and David Paul were selected as 2017 grant recipients.
Two staff members of The Evergreens, a continuing care retirement community in Moorestown, were recently selected as 2017 recipients of grants offered to exceptional employees looking to further their education in healthcare.
Shakira Davis and David Paul were awarded The Evergreens Charles Edward Cost Memorial Healthcare Education Grant and The Evergreens Scott Coffee Memorial Healthcare Education Grant, respectively. The grants are made possible through endowed funds and various donors to the Edward Cost and Scott Coffee Scholarship funds.
“We are so pleased to see two of our best and brightest staff members receive these education grants,” said President and CEO of The Evergreens Doug Halvorsen. “It’s wonderful to see them grow their knowledge in nursing, so they can continue to provide high-quality healthcare.”
Shakira Davis of Camden has been with The Evergreens community for 12 years and currently works as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). As the recipient of the Charles Edward Cost Memorial Healthcare Education Grant worth $2,000, she plans to apply to the nursing program at Rowan College of Burlington County and continue her studies. Davis says she would love to become a traveling nurse one day, perhaps working on a cruise ship so she can provide care to patients while seeing the world.
David Paul of Burlington has been with The Evergreens community for eight years and currently works as a CNA. With the Scott Coffee Memorial Healthcare Education Grant worth $500, Paul plans to attend Rowan College of Burlington County full-time. He would ultimately like to work as a nurse-practitioner in hospice/palliative care.
Both Davis and Paul praised The Evergreens for inspiring their career choices.
“I love it here; that’s why I’ve worked here for more than 10 years,” Davis said. “It’s very intimate environment. The Evergreens is a family.”
