Proceeds raised from special events amounted to a $10,000 donation
CINNAMINSON, N.J. — The Cinnaminson Fire Department is proud to announce that with the support of residents and businesses, they were able to donate $10,000 to the fight against breast cancer.
Lead by members of a committee of the department, a number events were held starting in September, including a Family Fun Day at the fire station, a Paint the Town Pink paint party, a Movie Night at the Fire Station and a Dine and Donate at Sweetwater Inn. In addition, the department sold T-shirts, pink light bulbs, wooly caps, bows and pins.
“Our members are extremely committed to this event. Besides all of the time these men and women commit to the community through weekly training sessions, meetings and emergency responses, it is amazing that they spend many additional hours planning for and sponsoring the fundraisers to support this campaign,” said William Kramer, Jr., chief of the department. “I couldn’t be more proud”.
Lieutenant James Clancy, co-chair of the committee, said the department not only beat its goal to exceed last year’s campaign, but “smashed it.”
“The committee worked extremely hard and spent hundreds of hours on this campaign,” he said. “At the end, it is all worth it when we present the checks to the charities we support. “
Those charities are the Virtua Breast Cancer Women’s Comfort Fund and the Rebecca A. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Virtua Breast Care Comfort Fund helps patients obtain items that insurance may not cover. During this year’s presentation, a local patient was present to thank the members and explain how the fund has helped her through trying times.
The funds donated to the Rebecca A. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund will help local paramedic students gain scholarships for their training. Partnered with Rowan College at Burlington County, the scholarship fund is helping local paramedic students gain the best training available. This check was presented to the family of paramedic Rebecca Scott, who died at the age of 28 from breast cancer.
“With the amazing continued support of the Cinnaminson community, we are setting next year’s goal even higher,” said Cinnaminson Fire Department business administrator Jean Dietrick, who is a breast cancer survivor.
