Do something: Veteran’s Day 5K scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11

Remember and honor those who served our country this weekend with various Veteran’s Day ceremonies taking place throughout the region

There will be many Veterans Day ceremonies taking place across the region this weekend, but those aren’t the only events happening this weekend. Find out what other events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

In Mullica Hill

  • This year’s Veteran’s Day 5K/1-mile Walk, scheduled for Nov. 11, will raise funds for the American Legion Post 452 to focus its efforts on helping veteran and youth organizations in the area. Beginning and ending at the American Post Legion 452, located at 141 N. Main St., Mullica Hill, the event is open to runners, walkers and joggers of all ages. This year, Navy veteran and Mullica Hill resident Timothy Birkhead will be the guest of honor. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony, food provided by Blueplate and a beverage.

Around South Jersey

  • Veterans Day observances will be held in a number of towns around South Jersey this weekend. Medford VFW Post 7677 will conduct its Veterans Day ceremony at the Medford Township monument on South Main Street beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony will include a rifle salute. The VFW will also conduct a similar ceremony at its headquarters on Church Road. For more information, visit www.medfordtownship.com.
  • The Katz JCC’s 2017 Bank of America Festival of Arts, Books and Culture will wrap up this weekend. A variety of people will appear at the Lahn Social Hall on Saturday and Sunday, including former America’s Got Talent mentalist and entertainer Oz Pearlman, actor Stephen Tobolowksy and a free community-wide Kristallnacht observance on Sunday morning featuring author Noah Lederman.   • Residents can grab a bunch of books this weekend at the Cherry Hill Public Library. Friends of the Cherry Hill Public Library’s fall book sale will wrap up on Saturday. Library patrons can purchase a bag of books for just $5 on Saturday. The sale will be open during library hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds benefit the library.   • Washington Township’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Board will also be hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony on Saturday. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. at All Veterans Park, next to the high school and behind the Washington Township Police Department. A breakfast will be held for veterans at Washington Township High School prior to the ceremony. At the Jersey Shore

  • Start the holiday season early on Saturday at the Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May. The estate will host its Christmas tree lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Santa Claus and Dr. Physick will be on hand to flip the switch and light the tree. Guests can also enjoy refreshments and a free self-guided tour of the estate from 6 to 8 p.m. The estate is located at 1048 Washington Street in Cape May.   • It’s Girls Weekend in Sea Isle City and there will be plenty of opportunities for women to enjoy shopping throughout the town Saturday and Sunday. More than 40 Sea Isle City shops and restaurants will be offering discounts all weekend long. In Philadelphia

  • The 41st annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show will take over the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The show will feature 195 craft artists from across the United States. This year’s special guest artists from South Korea will also be featured in the show. Tickets are $18 for adults and $5 for children 5 and under. Visit www.pmacraftshow.org for more information.
  • The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia will hold a Veteran’s Day Celebration on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the start of the day, there will be a flag ceremony led by the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. All veterans with a formal ID will receive free admission to the museum plus $2 off admission for up three other guests.
