Music Education on a High Note in South Jersey

Dozens of local students to participate in Young Americans workshop and show.

The following is a press release from Mainstage Center for the Arts:

Dozens of third to 12th graders in southern New Jersey will join forces with the internationally-acclaimed Young Americans during their National Music Outreach Tour, an event that occurs locally just once every three years.

On Nov. 9 to 11, at Camden County College’s Lincoln Hall, student participants will work beside these talented performers as they engage in a workshop focused on voice, dance and performance techniques.

Then, on Nov. 11 at the college’s Dennis Flyer Theatre, student participants will share the stage with the Young Americans in a spectacular two-hour show in front of parents, families, teachers and community members.

The workshop and performances are sponsored by Mainstage Center for the Arts.

The Young Americans are trained performers, teachers and strong music advocates, ages 18 to 24, who use philosophies and methods developed during the Young Americans’ 50 years of existence to bring the joy of singing, dancing and performing to students all around the world.

“It’s an honor and privilege for us to welcome the Young Americans back to our home,” said Ed Fiscella, Mainstage Center for the Arts producing artistic director. “In the fall of 2014, we had over 150 students sing and dance their way through this impressive three-day performance workshop. I can’t wait to see this energy again. What makes it really nice for me is that two of the Young Americans on tour, Ana Cullen and Kiara Johnson grew up with us doing Summer Stage. Everyone here is proud of them and looking forward to the chance to see them interact with the kids and perform for the hometown audience.”

Kiara credits her participation in the Young Americans workshop as the driving force to encourage her to audition and become a member and student of the organization.

“After I participated in the Young Americans workshop in 11th grade, I decided that I really wanted to become one since I had so much fun. Also, where else could you get the opportunity to travel all around the world at such a young age?” said Kiara. “I’m so excited to come back to be on the other side of the workshop with the Young Americans teaching local kids. The workshop’s a great way for kids to be able to continue doing what they love once Summer Stage ends. They’ll get to see their friends again and learn an extremely awesome show in only one weekend!”

Registration for the three-day workshop is $97.

To register, visit www.mainstage.org or call (856) 227–3091.

Ticket to the high-energy performance on Nov.11 at 7 p.m. are also available for purchase on the Mainstage website.
