More students taking PARCC in Cherry Hill, but results are mixed
The Cherry Hill Board of Education received a mixed bag of news when it was presented with the school district’s 2017 PARCC assessment results at last Tuesday’s meeting. The data showed more students took the test last year than either of the previous two years and the district also scored favorably in English/language arts. However, board members showed concern at the decline of math scores at some grade levels.
Cherry Hill schools sees a decrease in violence, vandalism and bullying incidents in 2016–17
In another presentation at Tuesday’s meeting, the board of education reviewed Cherry Hill Public Schools’ 2017 Violence, Vandalism, Weapons and Substance Abuse Report. The news was generally good for the school district, as it had an overall decrease in the number of incidents for the first time in four years. There were decreased in the number of violence, vandalism, weapons and HIB incidents, with an uptick in substance abuse reports.
Cherry Hill High School West performs “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” opening Friday, Oct. 27
Cherry Hill West Theatre is hoping to give audiences a frightfully good time with its 2017 fall play, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The show opens on Oct. 27 and runs through Oct. 29 at the Cherry Hill West auditorium. Cast members said the show has a little bit of everything, including excitement, suspense, comedy and romance.
Cherry Hill author to discuss deeply emotional memoir at Katz JCC
Cherry Hill author Rea Bochner has written dozens of articles and short stories in her professional career. However, nothing compares to her latest work, “The Cape House: A Memoir.” Bochner self-published the book earlier this year and will discuss her latest work at the Katz JCC Arts, Books and Culture Festival on Nov. 6. The book dives into Bochner’s experience with her mother, Debbi, during her mother’s final weeks before dying from terminal cancer.
One person transported to hospital after overnight apartment fire in Cherry Hill
Residents at the Colonial Apartments on Cooper Landing Road in Cherry Hill found themselves outside for hours on Monday night and early Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at the complex. On Monday night, a fire started in the fifth floor of one of the apartment buildings. It was brought under control at approximately 12:30 a.m. One person was transported to the hospital with injuries.
