Former Lenape High School football player suing district for $1 million for alleged racial bias
Kenya Williams Jr., a former student and football player at Lenape High School, is suing the Lenape Regional High School District for $1 million in damages for racial discrimination and bias Williams and his family claim Williams faced while a student at Lenape. The civil rights lawsuit alleges Williams, an African American, and other African American members of the Lenape High School football team, were subjected to an “increasingly hostile and harassing environment” at Lenape where “taunts of a racial derogatory tone” were used against them.
Mt. Laurel Police investigating crash between motorcycle and school bus

The Mt. Laurel Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on South Church Street near the intersection of Country Lane at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 25. According to police, a Mt. Laurel Township school bus collided with a motorcycle. Police say no students on the bus were injured as a result of the crash. However, according to police, the driver of the motorcycle was deceased at the scene.
Mt. Laurel Township Council honors teen for ‘Cozies 4 Chemo’ charity
This week Mt. Laurel Township Council honored 17-year-old Lenape High School senior Meghan Vizzard for the “Cozies 4 Chemo” charity she began at age 12 to make and distribute no-sew fleece blankets to cancer patients going through chemotherapy. The idea for the charity stemmed from a blanket Vizzard made to give comfort to her then 19-year-old cousin who was battling ovarian cancer.
Parade of Artists volunteers work to bring more art education to students of Mt. Laurel
Every year through the “Parade of Artists” program, a group of about 15 volunteers meets several times a month from September to January to educate themselves and one another about art. With their interest in art and a desire to bring that interest to students across Mt. Laurel Schools, volunteers use their meetings as workshops to study artists, artwork and styles of art, as well as creating hands-on lesson plans for the students in younger grades at the elementary school level in Mt. Laurel.
Mt. Laurel Township set to hold Volunteer Sign-up night on Oct. 10
Residents of Mt. Laurel who are looking to make a difference in their community might want to mark Oct. 10 on their calendars. That evening, Mt. Laurel Township is set to host its first-ever “Volunteer Sign-up” event from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mt. Laurel Community Center. According to acting township manager Meredith Tomczyk at this week’s Mt. Laurel Council meeting, the night will bring together volunteer organizations from the township in one central location so residents can learn more about opportunities to volunteer their time for good causes in their community.
