Evesham Township School District views switch from state health benefits plan
The Evesham Township School District may move its medical insurance plan away from the state health benefits plan and into the South Jersey Health Insurance Fund — a collaborative purchasing group of other districts in the area. Through the move the district would still see an 11 percent increase in health benefits costs starting Jan. 1, but the increase would be less than the 13 percent increase the district would see by remaining in state health benefits plan. The district would save $180,000 by making the switch.
Two Cherokee High School students receive award from Congress of Future Medical Leaders
Two Cherokee High School students received an award from the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. Maggie Rose Trampe and Anna Messina represented Cherokee High School and New Jersey at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders this summer. During the event, students were able to watch a live surgery and ask questions to the surgeon in real time.
Marlton man indicted on charges of shooting at Evesham Police officer in May

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina has announced that a Marlton resident has been indicted on charges related to allegedly shooting at an Evesham Township police officer who went to the man’s apartment for a well-being check earlier this year. A Burlington County Grand Jury indicted Jeffrey R. Wass, 55, of the Nieuw Amsterdam Apartments on North Maple Avenue, on two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (second degree), two counts of aggravated assault (second degree, third degree), unlawful possession of a weapon (second degree), certain persons not to have firearms (third degree), and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer (fourth degree).
Former Lenape High School football player suing district for $1 million for alleged racial bias
Kenya Williams Jr., a former student and football player at Lenape High School, is suing the Lenape Regional High School District for $1 million in damages for racial discrimination and bias Williams and his family claim Williams faced while a student at Lenape. The civil rights lawsuit alleges Williams, an African American, and other African American members of the Lenape High School football team, were subjected to an “increasingly hostile and harassing environment” at Lenape where “taunts of a racial derogatory tone” were used against them.
Burlington County announces annual free flu vaccine clinics for county residents
Burlington County Freeholder Linda Hughes has announced that the Burlington County Health Department will host a series of clinics again this year to provide free flu vaccines to county residents. In addition to multiple clinics across the county for the next several months, a clinic will be held in Evesham on Oct. 26 from 9:30 to 11 a.m at the Gibson House Community Center, 535 E. Main St.
