Reduce, reuse, recycle
I am happy that my administration is taking the initiative to educate the elementary school students in Washington Township about the importance of recycling. On Sept. 18 at Bells Elementary School, I attended an assembly that was organized by Township Clerk Leo Selb and Councilwoman Angela Donato. Councilman Joe Perry was also in attendance. The purpose of this assembly was to teach students how they can make a difference by recycling. It is important we introduce recycling and keeping a clean community to children, because they will one day be responsible our environment. It is our goal to bring this assembly and other great resources to the rest of the elementary schools in Washington Township. I would like to thank Selb, Donato and Bill Kerwood, who presented a fun and engaging assembly for the students at Bells Elementary School.
Shred Day
I am happy to announce a second Shred Day event this year on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Municipal Building. If you missed the first Shred Day that took place this past April, this is your chance to purge any sensitive information, while also recycling. I attended the Shred Day in April and was happy to meet the many residents who took advantage of this wonderful event. I would like to thank our Event Coordinator Lisa Collins for putting these Shred Day events together and organizing with the DocuVault shredding company. D.A.R.E. program reinstated
I am happy to announce the D.A.R.E. program, which stands for “Drug Abuse Resistance Education,” will be reinstated in the elementary schools for fifth graders. I am confident this program will be beneficial to our students and equip them with the tools they need to make smart decisions and resist using drugs. This is an extremely important issue and I am determined to address this as a community. I was so happy the Washington Township police and school board came together to make this initiative possible. Two of our police officers Gary Egizi and Joseph Rowson, will soon be graduating from the D.A.R.E. Officer Training. They will be great leaders for the students in our schools and I am proud the students will have an opportunity to take part in this interactive program.
