At approximately 2:54 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, the Burlington Township Police Department responded to the area of Route 541 near Sunset Road for a serious motor vehicle collision.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the collision involved three vehicles. Due to the seriousness of the collision, Route 541 was shut down, and traffic had to be diverted for several hours so that officers could conduct their investigation.
The initial investigation indicates that prior to the collision a grey Infiniti was travelling southbound on Route 541 approaching Sunset Road. Just prior to the intersection, the grey Infiniti rear-ended a red Ford SUV that was stopped in traffic. The red Ford SUV then struck a blue Hyundai SUV that was also stopped in traffic. The Infiniti ultimately overturned and came to rest on its roof.
The operator of the Infiniti was transported to Cooper University Hospital Trauma Center in Camden, NJ where he is presently listed in stable condition. The operator of the red Ford SUV was transported to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, NJ with minor injuries. No other occupants were injured.
This collision is still under investigation by members of the Burlington Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Burlington Township Police Department Investigations Bureau. Blood was drawn from the operator of the Infiniti and will undergo toxicology tests. No charges have been filed at this point in the investigation.
