Burlington Township Police Officer Christina Zalot continues to give her time to community
For a lot of women, getting into law enforcement may not be the first thing that comes to mind. For 24-year-old Burlington Township Police Officer Christina Zalot, law enforcement was something that became a reality during her college years. Zalot, a Burlington Township resident since she was 2 years old, started considering law enforcement following a college internship while at Monmouth University. Following her high school graduation in 2010, Zalot attended Monmouth where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice while also minoring in psychology.
Dominic Mazzio honored as Guest of Honor at Trenton Thunder Aug 22 game
Seven-year-old Dominic Mazzio has always been a happy child, fighting to make others around him as happy as he is. On Aug. 22, Mazzio was a guest of honor at the Trenton Thunder baseball game, which was also including efforts to promote awareness of pediatric cancer. In 2013, Dominic woke up completely paralyzed. Dominic’s mother, Ashley, said the family later found out Dominic had transverse myelitis — a neurological disease that attacks the spinal cord, affecting the immune system. He spent months re-learning to walk, and doctors monitored him closely with MRIs every three months. In 2014, an MRI found a small lesion, which the family would later find out from the doctors at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was an inoperable brain tumor.
Two Motor Vehicle Stops Result in Two Firearms Arrests
On Friday, August 18, 2017 and Friday, August 25, 2017, officers from the Burlington Township Police Department made two arrests and seized two firearms as the result of two separate motor vehicle stops. The motor vehicle stop on Friday, August 18, 2017 was initiated by P/O Correa in the area of Route 541 and Bromley Boulevard at 9:21 p.m. due to a motor vehicle violation. During the stop, P/O Correa observed a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun laying on the center console of the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, a 21-year-old male from Washington, N.C., was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after it was discovered he had no permit to possess the handgun in New Jersey. Batts was processed and released pending his appearance in court.
Freeholders authorize $1 Million Economic Development Loan to McCollister’s Transportation Group
Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio announced on Aug.24 that the Freeholder Board has authorized a $1 million Route 130 interest-free revolving loan to McCollister’s Transportation Group during their Wednesday, August 23, 2017 public meeting. This loan will allow the company to retain 100 jobs in Burlington County and lead to further job creation. Additionally, the loan will assist McCollister’s in purchasing property on Terri Lane in Burlington Township for their new company headquarters.
