Evesham Police to join ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ crackdown Aug. 18 through Sept. 4

In addition to arrest, police say drunk drivers face jail , the loss of driver licenses, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, fines, court costs, car towing, repairs and more.

According to the Evesham Police department, alcohol-impairment is a factor in nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities. In 2015, 10,265 people were killed in crashes involving a alcohol-impaired driver, 29 percent of all fatalities. Of all those killed, 69 percent (6,852) were in crashes in which at least one driver had a BAC of .15 or higher.

Police say arrested drunk drivers face jail time, the loss of their driver licenses, higher insurance rates, and dozens of other unanticipated expenses from attorney fees, fines and court costs, car towing and repairs, lost time at work, etc.

As such, the Evesham Police department will be joining the next ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ crackdown from Aug. 18 through Sept. 4.

Police also list the following to avoid drunk driving altogether:

• Plan a safe way home before the fun begins;

• Before drinking, designate a sober driver;

• If impaired, utilize the Evesham Saving Lives Program, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely.

• If one spots a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to report the incident to the ETPD or 911.

• Remember, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. If one knows someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to safely get to where they are going.

Police say whether one has had way too many or just one too many, it’s never worth the risk to drive impaired. There’s always another way home. If a law enforcement officer pulls someone over for drunk driving, they will be arrested.
