Moorestown’s BOE race has had a minor change to the candidate landscape.
The race for Moorestown’s Board of Education has seen a change to the candidate landscape for the Tuesday, Nov. 7 election. While previously, the Burlington County clerk’s office had announced four candidates running for a three-year term, there are now five candidates running for the three seats.
The change comes as a result of the Burlington County Clerk’s office receiving two nominations from Moorestown resident Kameron Rabenou, according to a letter from the office sent on Aug. 1. Under state Statute 19:3–5.(a), a person seeking election to a public office in the state cannot simultaneously hold another elective public office.
“As it is not legally permitted for you to serve both the two-year unexpired term and three-year full term of office on the Moorestown Township School Board, this office can not accept both nominations petitions,” a letter from the office to Rabenou reads.
For that reason, the office asked Rabenou to advise them as to which nomination petition the office should accept. Rabenou wrote back on Aug. 6 that he was choosing to run for the full, three-year expired term.
Following the July 31 filing deadline, the clerk’s office had previously listed Rabenou as running for the two-year, expired term against incumbent Mark D. Villanueva. Villanueva is now the sole candidate running for the unexpired term.
Rabenou will face off against incumbent Peter Palko and fellow newcomers Lauren Romano, Jack F. Fairchild and Tinamarie Nicolo‐Dorfner who are all vying for the three, three-year term positions.
