Harrison Township Historical Society seeks vintage photographs

The photos will be used to create a book, covering the community’s history from colonial times to the 21st century

Harrison Township Historical Society is seeking vintage images of Harrison, South Harrison and the western edge of Elk Townships for a new illustrated history of Old Harrison Township, such as this 1930 photo of Lake Gilman when it was a summer resort.

The Harrison Township Historical Society in Mullica Hill is seeking vintage images of activities, buildings and people in Harrison, South Harrison and the western edge of Elk (Ferrell, Pine Tavern, Lake Gilman and Wright’s Mill) for a new illustrated history of the township as defined by the original borders.

“We are especially interested in locating original images of Ferrell, Pine Tavern, the lake community at Jessup’s Mill, Lincoln, Harrisonville and Harrisonville Station,” said James Turk, who with Karen Heritage is authoring the book.

“Mullica Hill and Old Harrison Township” will cover the community’s history from colonial times to the 21st century. The images are drawn from the society’s own collection, as well as other institutional and private holdings. The book is expected to be available in Fall 2018.

Individuals who have information and are willing to share their collections should contact the society at (856) 478–4949, or by e-mail, [email protected].

Photos can be scanned, although donations of original images are welcomed as well.
