Letter to the Editor: Elected officials delaying salary referendum

The writer‘s letter refers to a petition against salary changes for township employees

After more than three months, a petition signed by 2,700 residents of Washington Township submitted to the clerk’s office, and to our elected officials, during a council meeting, is still being reviewed by the administration.

A pack of snails could have done the job in less time. A number of residents signed the petition to put a referendum on the ballot to allow voters to decide on salary increases, or not, for individuals on the job for less than two months.

Only 1,800 valid signatures are necessary for the referendum, but the administration decided to fight the residents by delaying the process and spend taxpayers’ dollars irresponsibly.
