Eagle Scout gets Audubon Society flocking to Burlington Township
As a member of Boy Scouts of America’s Troop 764 in Burlington since childhood, Brian Siboczy wanted to achieve the Scout’s highest honor before aging out of the program. To obtain the rank, a Scout must initiate and execute a service project that benefits the community. Siboczy, who plans to study engineering at Rutgers, designed and built a kiosk at Green Acres Park displaying information about the local ospreys that build their nests there. He said as a result of his Eagle Scout project, the New Jersey Audubon Society has recognized Burlington Township as an osprey location.
Burlington Township Council reaching out and recognizing local youth
The theme of the Tuesday, June 13 Burlington Township Council meeting was simple: recognizing the community’s youth. Council thanked the next generation for offering its perspectives on the community. Mayor Brian Carlin recognized Burlington Township High School student Maya Wynter for finishing as a semi-finalist in the New Jersey League of Municipalities’ “Louis Bay Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition.”Carlin and council also recognized the first-, second- and third-place winners in the “What Burlington Township Means to Me” contest. The nine kindergarten through second-grade students shook Carlin’s hand and some read from their submissions.
Dive in: Sylvan Lake to open for the season
Sylvan Lake Swimming Facility will open on Thursday, June 22 at 11 a.m. The facility, located on Lake Avenue, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. during their open season. The Burlington Township Recreation Commission has set this year’s fees at $50 for a Burlington Township resident household or $100 for a non-resident household.The facility is open for ten weeks weather permitting.
