Shruthika Padhy finishes in top 10 at 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee
One year after finishing in 22nd place in the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee, Rosa International Middle School student Shruthika Padhy shined at the 2017 event. Padhy successfully spelled four words correctly in the first part of the finals on Thursday and was one of 15 competitors who advanced to the primetime finals in the evening. Padhy finished in the top-10 of the competition.
Cherry Hill resident found dead inside home Wednesday morning
Cherry Hill Police found a resident dead in a home on the 200 block of Heritage Road on Wednesday morning after receiving a call about a possible overdose. Police responded to the home at around 9 a.m. During the investigation, two officers were transported to the hospital after being exposed to an unknown substance. The officers were later released.
Multiple administrative reassignments to take place in Cherry Hill schools
Three Cherry Hill elementary schools will have a new principal beginning in 2017–18. Cherry Hill Public Schools decided to reassign a number of administrators as part of a change happening at central administration. Stockton, Kilmer and Cooper elementary schools are all slated to have new principals for next school year. Some parents from those schools protested the changes at the May 23 Cherry Hill Board of Education meeting.
Girls track teams from East and West meet in first ever ‘WE’ track meet
In May, Cherry Hill High School East and West’s girls track and field teams came together to hold the first “WE” track challenge. The competition was held at Cherry Hill West and allowed the two teams to join together in dual meet competition. Cherry Hill East won the inaugural event and the two schools plan to make the meet an annual tradition.
Volunteer organization keeping trails clear for Cherry Hill residents
As part of National Trails Day on Saturday, the Cherry Hill Trail Crew had a clean-up event at the Croft Farm trails. The Cherry Hill Trail Crew also holds regular clean-up sessions every second Saturday of the month. A number of enhancements have been made to Cherry Hill Township’s trail system thanks to the trail crew’s work over the last few years.
