The Scatter Sunshine foundation sponsoring equine therapy for special needs riders
When the Bungarden family lost one of their members, they chose to take their tragedy and channel it into something that might bring hope to other families. Nearly seven years ago, they started Scatter Sunshine, a philanthropic foundation that raises funds for equine therapy, which had brought joy to Rachel Bungarden’s life. Today, the once hyperlocal effort has grown to become a spirit day of sorts throughout Burlington Township, and this year, the Bungarden family is working to expand by getting Westampton involved. On Tuesday, June 6, Scatter Sunshine will host its annual day of fundraising with students at all schools in the Burlington Township district, staff at Westampton Middle School and members of both communities wearing yellow in support of the foundation.
Residents from New Jersey’s River Towns will rally in the fight against cancer June 3
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising activity in 27 countries and more than 5,000 communities. The relay is a fundraiser where participants create teams, and members take turns walking around a designated path to symbolize a cancer patient’s journey, with one member from each team walking the track at all times. The day of a relay is a festival atmosphere with participants walking the track, raffling off prizes and holding celebratory games. The opening ceremony is a celebration for all affected by cancer, but individual laps for survivors and caregivers will honor those who have battled cancer as well as the individuals who have cared for them.
Burlington Township’s fire department lieutenant awarded for his service
The Burlington Township Fire Department’s lieutenant Tyler Randt is the 2017 receipt of the Annual Knights of Columbus #589 Shield Award. Each year, the Knights of Columbus recognize members from the Burlington City and Burlington Township police, fire and emergency medical services departments who excel at service to their community. Randt also was awarded the Burlington Township Firefighter of the Year for 2016.
