The fire stretches about 300 acres in Shamong Township

A forest fire spotted by staffers at the New Jersey Forest Fire Service’s Medford Fire Tower blazed through Wharton State Forest in Shamong Township Saturday.

No homes are expected to be damaged by the fire or have been damaged so far, and no evacuations have been ordered.

Firefighters at the scene have set backfires in an effort to stop the main blaze and control the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
